Have a question, found a bug, or just want to tell us Lingua Viva mistranslated your tattoo? Here's how to get help.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does Scan Mode work?
Point your camera at Latin text — an inscription, a motto, a plaque — and tap to translate once the text is in focus. Your device recognizes the text on-device, then sends just the recognized text (not a photo) to our servers for translation and context.
Why does the translation seem off for a damaged or worn inscription?
Real-world inscriptions are often abbreviated, worn, or written in non-classical Latin (medieval or ecclesiastical variants drift from textbook Latin). Lingua Viva does its best to reconstruct likely intended text, and flags when its confidence is low. If a scan is consistently wrong, try typing the phrase into Paste Mode instead for cleaner input.
What does the Fake Latin Detector actually check?
It evaluates whether submitted text follows real Latin grammar — correct inflections, agreement, and word forms — and flags phrases that are grammatically invalid "dog Latin" (common in tattoos, mottos, and corporate slogans). It's meant to be informative and a little fun, not a strict academic tool.
Do I need an account?
No. Lingua Viva works with no sign-in required. Your saved translations are stored locally on your device.
Where is my History stored, and can I lose it?
Saved translations live only on your device. They are not backed up to any server, so deleting the app or switching devices without a manual transfer will remove your saved history.
Something isn't working — how do I report a bug?
Email us a description of what happened, what you expected instead, and (if possible) a screenshot of the scan or phrase involved. This helps us fix it faster.
Can I request a phrase or feature?
Yes — we read every email. If there's a specific inscription type, language feature, or era of Latin you'd like better support for, let us know.
